Time for Action

Oggi sfogliamo il volume scritto da Garry Bushell dal titolo Time for Action. Il libro è una collezione di recensioni, articoli e interviste dell’autore, apparse per la prima sulla storica rivista Sounds, tra il 1978 e il 1981, durante il mitico periodo del Mod Revival (o Renewal come Bushell lo chiamava in quel periodo), con note aggiuntive dell’autore stesso.

Il movimento MOD

In questa serie di scritti notiamo come, con il movimento MOD nuovamente in voga, i giornali avessero quasi dimenticato che il Modernismo era stato spesso ostracizzato dai media e del pubblico stesso. Essere un Mod era davvero essere un outsider, ed è proprio questo che ha fatto sì che questi “reietti” facessero gruppo con altre persone con la stessa mentalità, facendo sorgere gruppi di MODS in tutta la Gran Bretagna e successivamente in Europa. Bushell è stato probabilmente il primo scrittore a portare i Mod nei media mainstream, cosa che fa di questo libro un importante tassello del Modernismo mondiale.

Garry Bushell

Garry Bushell was the first rock writer to cover the scene, reviewing the Purple Hearts, the Jolt, the Chords and Secret Affair in rapid succession between 1978 and 1980. He was also the only one who gave the young backstreet bands a fair hearing.
